The Village of Stickney has dedicated the 4400 block of Wenonah as Honorary Jeff Walik Parkway in honor of our late GREAT Mayor.
"Thank you all for being here as we gather to celebrate the life and legacy of a truly extraordinary man, Jeff Walik.
There are moments in the life of a community that become part of its history moments that remind us not only of where we have been, but of the people who helped shape where we are today. This is one of those moments.
When Jeff became Mayor in 2017, he accepted the responsibility of leading this village with humility, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the people he served. But Jeff was never defined by his title. To so many of us, he was much more than our mayor. He was a trusted friend, a caring neighbor, a mentor, and for many, he was family.
Jeff had a servant's heart. He loved this village with everything he had. He believed that a community is strongest when its people care for one another, and he lived that belief every single day. Whether it was working to improve our village, lending a helping hand to someone in need, or simply offering a kind word and a warm smile, Jeff always put others before himself.
His legacy is not measured only by the projects he completed or the decisions he made as mayor. It is measured by the lives he touched, the friendships he built, and the countless acts of kindness that made this village a better place to call home.
Today, we ensure that legacy will live on.
It is with great pride, deep gratitude, and everlasting respect that we dedicate Wenonah in honor of Jeff Walik a devoted mayor, a loyal friend, and a beloved member. From this day forward, may this place stand as a lasting tribute to a man whose love for this village knew no bounds.
May every person who passes this sign be reminded of Jeff's dedication, his generosity, and his belief in the power of community. May it serve as a symbol that his spirit continues to live on in the streets he walked, the people he served, and the village he loved so dearly.
Jeff's name will forever be woven into the history of this community, and his memory will continue to inspire future generations. While we miss him deeply, we find comfort in knowing that his legacy will never fade. He will never be forgotten.
And now, Deb and Rob on behalf of the entire Village, it is my honor to present this commemorative sign to you. We hope you will accept it as a small expression of our gratitude for sharing Jeff with all of us. May you keep it, cherish it, and proudly display it in
your home, knowing that Jeff's legacy lives not only in this sign, but in the hearts of everyone gathered here today.
Jeff often gave more than was asked of him. He gave his time, his heart, his friendship, and his unwavering love for this village. Today, we give something back a permanent reminder that his life mattered, his service made a difference, and his memory will forever have a place here in The Village of Stickney and the 4400 block Wenonah.
Jeff Walik was more than our mayor.
He was our friend.
He was our family.
And he will forever be a part of this village.
Thank you."
